The founder of the Nikka brand, Masataka Taketsuru, was born in 1894 into a family of sake producers and is considered the father of Japanese whiskey. After graduating in chemistry, he started working for Settsu Shuzo, which sent him to Scotland for an internship. There he fell in love with whiskey and decided to devote his life to it. In 1934, he built his first Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido. His growing success allowed him to open a second distillery near Sendai in 1969: Miyagikyo. The Nikka Whiskey concern produces its entire line of Japanese whiskeys from these two distilleries.

Currently, Nikka is a very sought-after and popular brand of Japanese whiskey, which is also evidenced by the awards it has received at international competitions. Of all of them, we can mention, for example, the first place in the Top Trending World Whiskeys category of the Drinks International competition or the first place for Nikka From The Barrel whiskey in the Best Blended Whiskey 2022 category in the OSWA (Online Scotch Whiskey Awards) competition.
