Exotic tonka beans from the Venezuelan rainforests are among the most distinctive and popular ingredients in modern gastronomy. Its intense aroma is reminiscent of a combination of vanilla, almonds, caramel and sandalwood, giving dishes an unmistakable character.

Tonka beans grow on massive trees in the tropical climate of Venezuela. After harvesting, the fruits are dried, then macerated in rum and dried again, giving them their typical aroma and rich aromatic profile. The result is a spice with a deep sweet-spicy taste and a slightly bitter finish. It stands out best freshly grated on a fine grater, similar to nutmeg. A really small amount is enough, because its aroma is extremely intense.

It is perfect for desserts, creams, chocolate, ice cream, cheesecakes, but also for coffee, cocktails or modern gastronomy.

Warning: Tonka bean contains coumarin, so it is recommended to use it in moderation. However, in small quantities it is commonly used in gastronomy for its strong aroma.
