The art of aging is not just about keeping rum in barrels as long as possible. This could be quite challenging at times, because unlike ripening in many European countries, the temperatures in Panama are completely different. The share of rum that evaporates from the barrels every year is thus many times higher. Rum matures 3-4 times faster than Scotch whisky, but it also loses liquid in the cask reasonably quickly. So that the barrels are not almost empty after 15 years, the main blender of the distillery must put the vintage barrels at regular intervals, empty them into a larger tank and close it. The rum is then filled back into the casks and can continue to mature in peace, well filled. This guarantees a consistently high and consistent quality of vintage rums.

With Malecon Reserva Superior aged 15 years, this difference is already evident in the aroma. Amazingly soft, fruity and spicy. The typical vanilla notes of aging in oak barrels are wonderfully woven. A soft, natural sweetness then develops on the palate, which never dominates and is accompanied by notes of vanilla. The fruit note, which is very typical of Rum Malecon at an advanced age, is truly spectacular. The smell of dried apricots, a touch of exoticism, tones of caramel and all this accompanied by a pleasant spiciness. A real treat for true rum connoisseurs.
